A LARGE pile of tyres has been dumped off a main route through a village.
The waste is believed to have been fly-tipped on Grappenhall Lane in Appleton Thorn last week.
Several gas bottles were also left at the scene, in a layby near to the junction with Barleycastle Lane.
A spokesman from Cheshire Police’s rural crime team said: “This isn't your average cheap person with a van fly tip, this is organised crime.
“There is clearly no legitimate reason or excuse for this large-scale dump of tyres and gas bottles on the roadside next to a freshly ploughed field, freshly ploughed for foodstuffs that we consume now with added freshly leaching chemicals.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the force on 101, quoting incident number IML1110553.
