HAVE you ever wondered what it would be like to take part in the Wacky Races?

Well next year, you can have your chance as Cheshire is set to get a wacky race of it's own.

On Sunday, June 26, Northwich will be hosting Krazy Races – a traditional SoapBox Derby event and the first of its kind held in the town.

Thousands of spectators from across the county will be lining the streets to cheer on the weird, wacky and wonderful SoapBox entrants as they race through the town.

And as of today (October 15), the application process to enter has opened, with event organisers looking for about 40 to 60 teams to race in a knockout-style competition.

Warrington Guardian:

Trophies going will be handed out to the ‘fastest winner’, ‘best dressed’ and ‘most innovative design’ among others.

Held in Castle Hill, with an event village and viewing area in Verdin Park, fans will able to enjoy watching carefully crafted karts hurtle down a track which will consist of chicanes, obstacles and even water features.

Originally due to commence this summer, Krazy Races was postponed until next year due to Covid restrictions.

Organisers Sarah Belcher Events has joined forces with Macmillan and is encouraging fans and teams alike to raise as much money as possible for the cancer charity.

A previous event in Shrewsbury raised more than £20,000 for a variety of causes.

Warrington Guardian:

Sarah Belcher, founder of Krazy Races said: “After a challenging couple of years for everyone, we are delighted to be bringing some much needed laughs and joy to the great people of Northwich!

"There will be more fun than you can imagine, Krazy entertainment and lots of ‘wow, did they really just do that!?'

"This event is sure to capture the imaginations of the community and business in the area and together we can create a spectacular, unique and different event for the town.”

Sarah Belcher Events is working alongside Northwich Town Council to put on Krazy Races next summer.

Chris Shaw, spokesperson for the town council, said: “We are working in partnership with Sarah to bring this welcomed additional event to the town’s diverse event programme that Northwich has to offer.”

Warrington Guardian:

Macmillan partnership manager for the North West, Joanne Smith, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Krazy Races as the official charity partner for the Northwich event.

“The races are a great opportunity to raise vital funds for Macmillan so that we can continue to do whatever it takes for people living with cancer, and it’s exciting to be working closely with the Krazy Races team.

“There will be opportunities for race participants to fundraise for Macmillan, and we will also be at the events with information stands, tombolas and cake stalls.

"We’re really looking forward to Krazy Races and hope to see plenty of people there.”
