WARRINGTON has seen a week-on-week rise in its number of new coronavirus cases, the latest data shows.

Official figures from the Government reveal that 679 new Covid-19 cases were detected in the town in the week up to September 25, which is the latest period for which data is available, through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 324.3 cases among every 100,000 residents, which is the 212nd highest rate in the UK at present.

Comparatively, the previous seven-day period up to September 18 saw 577 infections recorded at a rate of 275.6.

Warrington is among 301 of 377 local areas in the UK that have seen a week-on-week rise in rates (80 per cent), while 74 have seen a fall (20 per cent) and two are unchanged.

Kettering in Northamptonshire continues to have the highest rate (1,010.7), followed by Neath Port Talbot in Wales (921.8) and Rhondda Cynon Taf in Wales (869.1).
