PLANS to place a storage container within the grounds of Kings Community Centre in Great Sankey look set for approval.

The application for the council-owned site, on Marina Avenue, will come before the development management committee during its meeting at the Town Hall on Wednesday.

Officers have recommended the scheme be approved subject to conditions.

The application site lies within an established residential area of Great Sankey.

It is bounded by the A562 Penketh Road to the east and the rear gardens of properties on Liverpool Road to the south.

A report to the committee says the area comprising the application site is currently a lawned area which is relatively flat.

The proposed development involves the siting of a container within the grounds of Kings Community Centre, to be used as storage ancillary to the main community use. The container will be used to store items associated with the community centre.

The proposed container would be of a standard size and construction. The proposed height is 2.39 and the width is 2.43 metres with a flat roof.

In a statement, council officers said the principle of locating an ancillary storage use extension to an established community use would be acceptable and would be considered sustainable development in accordance with a policy of the core strategy.

They added: “There would be no unacceptable impacts on the defined local character, or on residential amenity.

“There would also be no unacceptable impacts on the local highway network.

“For these reasons it is recommended that planning permission be granted subject to the conditions listed below.”
