COLCHESTER'S week-on-week Covid infection rate has risen slightly, the latest figures show.

According to the data, in the week to September 10, the borough's average coronavirus infection rate was 274.8 cases per 100,000 people.

During this week there were 542 cases of coronavirus confirmed in the borough.

The average infection rate has risen slightly from 271.3 cases per 100,000 people a week earlier, an increase of 1.3 per cent.

The worst affected area in Colchester in the week to September 10 was Abbey Field, which had an infection rate of 419.4 cases per 100,000 people.

The most cases in this week were recorded in New Town and Hythe - which saw 38 coronavirus infections.

The lowest coronavirus infection rate during this week was seen in Wivenhoe and University, of 166.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Highwoods had the second lowest infection rate, of 191.3 cases per 100,000 people, during this week.

In the week to September 10 the district's average infection rate was 248.4 cases per 100,000 people.

This has dropped by 4.4 per cent from 259.9 cases per 100,000 people a week earlier.

The worst affected area in the district during the week to September 10 was Clacton Central, with an infection rate of 362.2 cases per 100,000 people.

Manningtree and Mistley recorded the most cases with 35.

Frinton West and Kirby recorded the lowest infection rate, of 106.6 cases per 100,000 people.
