BROKEN glass has been found after a fire damaged a football pitch in Lymm.

And that is much to the dismay of residents.

The frustration comes after a rubbish fire was put out by firefighters last night, where the remains were found and it has left a large stain on Ridgeway Grundy Park football pitch.

The fire crew used a backpack extinguisher and a stack drag to put out the fire.

A Lymm resident who found the remains walking his dog this morning, Brian Smith, said: "“I am sick to death of this park being used as a rubbish dump. I used to play in this park as a kid and enjoy walking through it now.

"It is such a nice place on our doorstep ruined by a select few of selfish idiots.

“It’s full of broken glass and it’s on the centre circle."

Brian is not happy with the amount of litter in the park and helped clean the pitch.

He continued: “I have done my best and filled a bin bag full of waste but it needs some attention if football can be played on it at the weekend.

“Be aware if you are walking your dog. I will come out on my lunchtime and clear a bit more.”

Some plastic has stuck to the surface and Warrington Borough Council are now attending the park.
