A FORMER takeaway near Colchester town centre could be turned into a restaurant and shisha bar.

A planning application has been submitted to convert the former takeaway, in North Station Road, into a new eatery.

The building is in the North Station Road Conservation Area but the application states it has been left to fall into a state of disrepair.

A planning report states: "The application premises have undergone significant internal alterations and have not been well maintained.

"The applicant acquired the property within the last 18 months, and intends to invest in the building, improving the street appearance and establishing a more upmarket restaurant and shisha bar to replace the previous kebab shop."

Proposals will see new signage installed with a new outdoor seating area created in the garden.

The report adds: "The materials, proportions and overall appearance of the property are to be retained, with the proposed amendments kept to the minimum to upgrade and improve its appearance."
