A FESTIVALGOER was struck in the eye with a key during fighting at the 2021 Neighbourhood Weekender.

The 24-year-old victim was struck after a brawl broke out between two other groups near to the main stage on Friday night of the festival in Victoria Park, which was headlined by Gerry Cinnamon.

He was rushed to hospital, with doctors fearing he could lose the sight in the affected eye.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Police received a report of a 24-year-old man being assaulted at a festival on Knutsford Road in Latchford at around 8.15pm on Friday, September 3.

“The victim was assaulted following a fight between two groups that was taking place nearby, which he wasn’t involved in.

“He was taken to hospital with injuries to his eye.

“Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or online via the force’s website, quoting incident number IML1079949.”

The constabulary had previously confirmed that only one arrest was made during the event, which returned after being postponed from 2020 due to Covid-19 in an expanded three-day format.

A 46-year-old man was detained by officers on suspicion of selling fraudulent tickets.

James and Catfish and the Bottlemen were the other headliners as tens of thousands of revellers returned to the festival.
