THOUSANDS of residents lined the streets of the town this afternoon as the Tour of Britain came to Warrington.
Ethan Hayter claimed a dramatic victory in stage five of the race, pipping Mark Cavendish to the blue jersey outside the Golden Gates.
Moments earlier, a slip from his Ineos Grenadiers teammate Owain Doull resulted in a huge crash on the final turn at the Pink Eye roundabout.
Hayter sits at the top of the overall tour placings as a result of his victory.
The route began at Alderley Park near Macclesfield before taking in a circuit of rural Cheshire before heading through High Legh and Appleton Thorn.
Next was a jaunt up London Road, turning right at the A56 in the heart of Stockton Heath and over the Manchester Ship Canal via the Cantilever Bridge.
Riders then raced through Latchford, with students from nearby Cardinal Newman Catholic High School lining the Kingsway Bridge.
The race then followed Manchester Road, Padgate Lane, Marsh House Lane and Longford Street before dropping down into Warrington town centre via Winwick Road.
Cyclists then diverted across Tanners Lane, Froghall Lane, and Priestley Street to Liverpool Road before a sprint finish along Sankey Street to the Town Hall.
Huge crowds were seen in both Stockton Heath and Warrington town centre, with a healthy turnout throughout the route.
