THE managers of a popular pub in Whitchurch have explained the reasons behind their departure for a new life in Anglesey.

David and Maureen Wiles took over the Wheatsheaf pub in Green End in 2015 but are now moving to pastures new at The Breeze Hill, in Benllech.

The pair took to the Wheatsheaf's Facebook page to explain that the overall impact of Covid-19 – with government lockdowns forcing businesses to close – has led to the pair choosing a new life in Wales.

They confirmed that they had gone into voluntary liquidation.

"We have had a great send off from lots of people and some lovely cards and gifts – thank you," they said.

"Through the last 18 months, due to Covid closures etc, and just like many other businesses, we also ran up some utility bills and HMRC.

"This is painful for us as we have always run clean and financially stable businesses – Covid has a lot to answer for.

"Your loyal custom over the years has been very appreciated, we've all had some great times in The Sheaf and we hope to see you at The Breeze Hill."

David and Maureen have also posted on their Facebook page to show they have transformed the pub in the six years in charge, including the rooms to stay.

They added: "What we created was amazing and made us extremely proud.

"It also became a very valuable asset to the town of Whitchurch."
