A DOUBLE decker bus has been bought by a charity in Warrington in a bid to help homeless people off the streets throughout the winter months.
Friends of Meadowside Warrington have recently bought the double decker after their fundraiser received an anonymous donation of £8,000.
The group wanted to help with the homeless problem, not only in the town but across the north west.
The double decker bus includes 12 beds, cooking facilities, toilets, showers and various other things.
Since announcing the idea of the bus, the charity have also received a donation of bedding including sheets, pillow cases, pillows and other items.
Mark Davies, chairman of Friends of Meadowside Warrington, said that they would prefer referrals but if someone is in ‘dire need’, they will take them.
He said: “I can’t see anybody on the street – and at the minute, there are too many people on the street in the north west.”
The charity group have no idea where the donation came from but they said: “As a team, we are so so grateful because this is going to get 10-12 people off the streets this winter.”
The double-decker announcement comes after Friends of Meadowside Warrington has helped the community for three and a half years - offering food, clothing and emotional support.
They also have plans to potentially put the bus on a campsite throughout the summer period to provide families with a holiday who couldn't otherwise afford one.
