POLICE are appealing for information after a gang of thieves used a digger to steal a red phone box in a Cheshire village.

The phone box was pinched in Chelford, near Knutsford, at around 2.45pm on Tuesday, July 13.

Cheshire Police say that three men asked a member of the public to guard live electric cables, which were left exposed after it was removed using a digger from a garden on Chelford Road, while they contacted the energy network to ensure it could be made safe.

But the trio never returned.

The force has issued CCTV footage of a man officers want to speak to in relation to the incident.

Warrington Guardian:

Police constable John Milman said: "We’ve been making a number of enquiries in the area and are keen to speak to anyone who recognises the man in this image as he may be able to help us with our enquiries.

"I’d also appeal for the man to come forward to assist us with our investigation."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number IML1036485, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
