THOUSANDS of pupils across Warrington raced to school this morning to collect their GCSE results after another challenging school year.

We visited schools across the town to capture the special moments.

Nationally, the proportion of GCSE entries awarded top grades has surged to an all-time high after exams were cancelled for the second year in a row due to Covid-19.

Beverly Scott-Heron, head teacher at Sir Thomas Boteler in Latchford, said: "I'm incredibly proud, absolutely desperately proud of what they have achieved academically and holistically in terms of determination, resilience, even when they were faced with the biggest ever challenge of education."

Head at Birchwood High, Emma Mills, said she was delighted with the results.

She added "We are really proud of the hard work and resilience that all of our students have shown over the last two years.

"There have been many challenges and they have risen to all of them to achieve great results today."
