WARRINGTON Cricket Club will host a memorial match in honour of the late Frank Crawley on Sunday, August 22, at 2pm.

Some former Lancashire and England legends are being lined up to take part, including Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff and Mike Atherton.

The contest between a Select Warrington X1, with the three Crawley sons all in the squad, against an Old Lancashire X1 in a T2O match should be a cracker.

Ian Buttress, president of Warrington Cricket Club, said: "Frank was a great cricketer in his own right and a prominent businessman as director of Crosfields.

"He was also a past chairman and president of Warrington Sports Club.

"His three sons Mark, Peter and John started their league cricket for Warrington – in the 1980s we had 'the Crawley era' when they all played for the club – and they all went on to play first-class cricket, with John playing for England in 37 Test matches and 13 one-day Internationals.”

The Old Lancashire team will be managed by Neil Fairbrother and their squad includes Atherton, Flintoff, Warren Hegg, Mark Chilton, Graham Lloyd, Jason Gallion, Glenn Chapple, Richard Green, Mike Watkinson, Gary Yates and Steve Titchard.

It should be noted some of the squad members may have other contractual commitments on the actual day.

On the morning of August 22 there will be a club match at 10.30am between the President’s XI, which is the current under 17s team, and the Chairman’s XI which includes some of the successful 2009 under 15s team that reached the ECB final that year.

Bar and catering facilities will be available throughout the day.

Tickets, priced £5 for adults and £3 for juniors under 16, can be ordered at eventbrite.co.uk, by emailing events.warringtonsc@gmail.com or by calling 01925 263210.

Admission will be taken on the day at the same price.
