AS well as Warrington Wolves securing an important win, the match with Wigan Warriors on Wednesday night will also be remembered as the occasion when The Halliwell Jones Stadium was allowed to host a capacity crowd again.

The relaxation of the Government's coronavirus pandemic measures meant a full attendance at a Wire game was possible for the first time in 17 months.

Until last night, since May 17 this year up to 4,000 supporters had been allowed to attend in line with national Covid-19 public health guidance.

The match also saw the return of food and drink being sold to fans on the concourses.

As it was, just over 8,000 fans turned out for the midweek 'derby' and they witnessed The Wire record a 21-8 success over the old enemy as they marked their return to action following two matches being postponed due to the recent impact of Covid on the club's players and staff.

Guardian photographer Mike Boden captured these moments on the concourse and inside the playing arena to mark the occasion. Have a look below to see who you recognise.
