WESTBROOK Library is set to reopen to the public, with an official reopening date now confirmed.

The library, which is run by LiveWire on behalf of Warrington Borough Council, has been closed since March 2020 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

But residents will once again be able to borrow books and use the facilities when it reopens on Monday, September 6.

While the library’s doors were closed, LiveWire and Warrington Borough Council prepared a business case with the aim of increasing community use of the site.

The internal library space has been reconfigured, with the relocation of shelving and computers within the library creating a multi-purpose space to be used for community hires and activities.

The new opening hours for Westbrook Library are 10am to 1pm on Mondays, 2pm to 5pm on Wednesdays and 10am to 1pm on Saturdays.

LiveWire says its reopening plans for all its libraries centre on the safety of customers and staff, and are aimed at giving customers the confidence to borrow books in a friendly, safe and hygienic manner.

Emma Hutchinson, managing director of LiveWire, said: “We are delighted to be reopening Westbrook Library for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

“We hope the changes our team has been able to make while the doors have been closed, as well as the work done on the business case, will help to encourage wider community use of the library.

“We cannot wait to welcome customers through the doors again next month.”

Cllr Tony Higgins, the council’s cabinet member for neighbourhoods and communities, added: “It is good news that Westbrook Library is able to safely open its doors to local people once more, from September.

“We have made some improvements which we hope will benefit library users, and we are working closely with LiveWire to develop a business case for the future of the library.

The Warrington Library building in the town centre is currently closed for renovation works, but a temporary pop-up museum and library can be found within Golden Square Shopping Centre.

For customers not able to return to libraries in person, LiveWire offer an order and collect and a home library service.
