HERE are the latest official statistics on the spread of coronavirus in Warrington as cases decreased.

Data from Public Health England showed that in the week before July 19, most recent period for which figures are available, a total of 1400 positive cases were returned in the town.

This shows an infection rate of 666.6 per 100,000 people which is the 55th highest in the UK compared with all other local authority areas.

The figure is down on the data from the week leading up to July 18, which shows that 1,418 new infections were detected in the town, meaning there have been 18 less cases over this period.

The previous seven-day period up to July 12 saw 999 cases recorded at a rate of 475.7.

Redcar and Cleveland has the highest rate of infection (1523.9), followed by Middlesbrough (1420.8) and Stockton-on-Tees (1222.7).

There are 24 coronavirus patients in Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS, as well as six in intensive care.

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Covid-19 death toll currently stands at 506.
