NEW coronavirus cases in Warrington continue to increase at a significant pace, according to the latest data from Public Health England.

During the week up to July 16, which is the latest period available, 1,351 infections were detected in the town through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This demonstrates an infection rate of 643.3 cases per every 100,000 residents, which is the 52nd highest rate in England compared with all other local authority areas.

Comparatively, the previous week up to July 9 saw 879 cases recorded at a rate of 418.5.
