DESPITE a tough year due to the pandemic, year six pupils at a primary school in Stockton Heath embraced the concept of ‘the show must go on’ in their end of year show.
St Thomas’ CE Primary School pupils performed ‘Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies’ in front of an audience last week.
Staff and pupils worked hard to ensure they could end the year on a high despite all the setbacks and obstacles that Covid-19 presented to schools this year.
Mrs Mercer-Wilks, teacher and show producer, said: ‘‘Our Year 6 pupils put so much effort and enthusiasm into their rehearsals that we really wanted to provide them with an opportunity to showcase their hard work and talent in front of their families.
‘‘So we planned an outdoor performance in front of a limited, socially-distanced audience – keeping a very close eye on the weather forecast before deciding on a date.
‘‘We created a stage set under the trees in the school grounds, which was the perfect backdrop for our story set in a forest.
‘‘On the evening of the performance the weather was perfect and the children were just amazing, I was so proud of each and every one of them and it was a joy to see the smiles on our audience’s faces”.
