I REMEMBER Carter’s Cafe, my mother took me and my sister for tea and cakes in the late 1930s-40s.
Late 1940s, Saturday mights a gentleman and his don from Latchford ran a dance called the Mayfair Club ballroom dancing to records.
It was quite select.
I met my husband there, no bar, and we would catch the last bus home.
I hope someone else remembers it, they would be in their late 80s or 90s.
Later it became Hodgkinsons furniture store with a passageway through to their dress shop, as displayed in this week’s paper.
But no mention of it being Hodgkinsons, probably the original store.
