IT'S Friday and another working week is behind us so why not treat yourself to a takeaway?

This week we have rounded up the current top five Chinese restaurants, as according to Tripadvisor.

1. MR LAU'S

Mr Lau’s, run by Pamela Lau and Adamo Devoti, in Springfield Street, is believed to be the only dedicated dim sum bar outside of London.

Dim sum is a style of Chinese cuisine prepared as small bite-sized portions – a bit like tapas.

It has been a huge hit since opening its doors in the Cultural Quarter in 2013, and is one of our Warrington Guardian Food and Drink Awards winners.

One reviewer said: "Beautiful delicious food served every time! Great service with a smile. Best Chinese in town."

Another added: "It was nothing short of amazing. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection and the portions were huge. All the staff were lovely and very attentive."

2. CHOY HING VILLAGE

Warrington Guardian:

This restaurant has been in Grappenhall since 1987 where we have become a firm favourite among its neighbours and regular visitors. Choy Hing serves authentic Peking, Thai and Cantonese cuisine.

A contributor said: "Absolutely amazing food, impeccable staff and always a warm welcome."

Another added: "Incredible food as always, and amazing service. As a non-meat eater, it is amazing to see the choice of vegetarian starters, and I particularly recommend the vegetarian spring rolls and vegetarian 'chicken'."

3. TAO

Tao roughly translates as ‘the way’.

And for Chris and Vanessa tao is about love – for food, family and sharing time together.

On their website it says: "We love to eat, cook, think about and talk about food. From the border of China and Vietnam, via the vibrant restaurant scene of 70s London to the heart of Cheshire, our family has been immersed in sharing our passion for food for decades."

A visitor said: "The whole experience was phenomenal, the staff are so lovely and the experience for us was beautiful. The food was delicious and the cocktails are heavenly."

Another reviewer added: "Having eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world, the service at Tao rivals any of them. Personal, caring and incredibly attentive. Chris was a world-class host. You’re made to feel very welcome and this doesn’t wane for a second.

"The food was way different to the usual Chinese/Cantonese restaurant fayre and was full of little fun touches like dry ice with the starter. The sui mai and bao buns were exceptional."

The restaurant is in Baldwin's Terrace, Padgate Lane.

4. EAST ORIENT

Warrington Guardian:

This all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet in Horsemarket Street has long been a Warrington favourite.

A Tripadvisor user said: "My friend who has been to this restaurant many times invited me to come along to try it. When we arrived the atmosphere was welcoming and the smell of the food was amazing.

"We were greeted by a nice gentleman who seated us at our pre booked table. He then took our drink orders and we got straight into the buffet.

"They were very cautious with Covid providing us with gloves and sanitizer before we collected our plates. The food was laid out lovely and it was all really fresh and tasty. I tried a lot of new dishes while I was there as there is so much variety.

5. CHINA ROSE

The Culcheth restaurant has risen through the Tripadvisor rankings for serving excellent food and having good service matched with reasonable prices and hearty portion sizes.

A reviewer said: "Took our friends here last night and I must say it was one of the best Chinese restaurants we have visited. Excellent food, service and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be coming back soon."

Another contributor added: "It’s a hidden gem, best Chinese food we have had in a long time."
