THE number of coronavirus infections being recorded in Warrington over a week continues to rise, latest figures show.

During the seven days up to June 26, which is the most recent period for which Public Health England data is available, 579 new cases were detected through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This is the equivalent of 275.7 cases per every 100,000 residents, which is the 34th highest infection rate in England.

Comparatively, the previous week up to June 19 saw 414 cases identified at a rate of 197.1.

Warrington is among 302 of 315 local areas in England that have seen a rise in rates (96 per cent), while 11 have seen a fall (three per cent) and two are unchanged.

Hyndburn continues to have the highest rate (584.9), followed by Blackburn with Darwen (503) and Rossendale (489.6).
