WARRINGTON has been named the most 'house proud' area of the UK in new research looking at how trends have recently changed in how we treat where we live.

The pandemic created a DIY boom, with many using the downtime of lockdown and furlough to do long delayed jobs around the house and make living spaces more comfortable.

In light of this, interior design company Dowsing and Reynolds collected Google search data from last year to get some insight.

Warrington was found to be the most ‘house proud’ large town or city with 313 searches per 100k searching for living room décor, best hoover, kitchen storage ideas and Mrs Hinch Cleaning tips.

Ally Dowsing-Reynolds, co-chief executive at Dowsing and Reynolds, said: “Following last year’s DIY boom, it’s been amazing to see the nation take more of an interest in interiors than ever before, especially the power they have on our overall mood.

"Not only have we been redecorating, but we’ve also been looking at ways to spruce up and declutter our homes to help create relaxing spaces.

“We love to encourage people to create a sanctuary at home that best reflects them - it should be a place to escape the worries of everyday life. Taking pride in our homes is one way we can restore that feeling of calm."
