POLICE have reported a ‘careless’ driver after catching him breaking the speed limit in ‘pouring rain’ this afternoon, Wednesday

The motorist was caught by North West Motorway Police on the M6 northbound approaching Thelwall Viaduct.

As well as speeding, the driver was spotted by an unmarked patrol car undertaking multiple other vehicles.

Despite deploying their emergency equipment, it took two attempts for the driver to look in his mirror and realise that officers wanted him to pull over.

Posting on social media, North West Motorway Police said: “This driver was spotted by our unmarked patrols in pouring rain in excess of the speed limit (90mph) towards Thelwall.

“He even decided to undertake multiple vehicles that got in his way.

“It took two attempts with blue lights to grab his attention and get him to look in his mirror and see who was behind him.

“Driver's excuse was that he was tired having travelled from the south of the country and wanted to get home.

“Some of these excuses today need a little more thought behind them. Driver reported for careless driving.”
