WARRINGTON’s young adults are being urged to receive the coronavirus vaccine by the town’s public health chief.

This comes after it was revealed that the highest rates of Covid infection in the town are among those aged between 15 and 24.

Vaccinations are currently available for all adults aged 18 and over at sites across the town.

To bring infection rates in the age group down, Warrington’s director of public health Thara Raj is calling for all those who are eligible to book an appointment as soon as possible.

“Everyone aged 18 and over can now book their appointments for the Covid vaccine, and I am very pleased to say that many young people have already taken the opportunity to get booked in,” she said.

“Our local data is showing that case numbers are continuing to increase in younger age groups, with those aged 15-25 having the highest infection rates.

“We can assume this is largely due to people in this age group only be offered the vaccine recently, and others who are below the age of 18 not currently being eligible.

“I would encourage any young person who has not yet made a vaccine appointment to do so soon, as it greatly reduces your risk of contracting and spreading the virus and it protects you against serious illness.

“Please do not wait to be contacted – just get on the national booking system at nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19

“If you live locally, you can also book through our local hospital, which is offering the Covid vaccine at warrington.nhsbookings.com/v2

“I also want to remind everyone to make sure you receive your second dose when offered it as this will improve the effectiveness of the vaccine, particularly against variants of concern.”
