NEW tenants for Stretton’s pavilion have been announced, revealing who will be moving into the building.

Pewterspear Green Trust announced the news on 18 June, following the current redevelopment of the building.

Agoge 2.0 gym will be the new tenants and the gym is due to open in the Autumn after the building work is finished at the pavilion.

The Agoge already have a popular gym in north Warrington and are now expanding in Stretton.

A spokesperson for Pewterspear Green Trust said: ‘‘The building was built over 20 years ago with the aid of a grant from the National Lottery/Sport England fund and their design rules required 4 large changing rooms.

‘‘Those changing rooms have only seen very limited use since they were built and sadly for a number of years now the sports pavilion has been losing money.

‘‘The Pewterspear Green Trust is a charity that was set-up with a grant from English Partnerships (now Homes England).

Warrington Guardian:

‘‘We use the investment income from that to maintain nearly 45 acres of parkland and junior sports pitches that we know is an open space that is highly valued by our community, especially in recent months.

‘‘As Trustees of a charity we couldn't continue with a situation where the costs of the pavilion increasingly exceeded the income that could be generated, so the decision was taken to refurbish the building to bring it up to modern standards.

‘‘The Agoge is a well-established business specialising in fitness and wellbeing and will be paying the Trust a commercial rate for the hire of the pavilion.

‘‘Building work has only just started on the pavilion and The Agoge are due to open in the autumn, so plans are at an early stage and are still developing.

‘‘Having a long term tenant renting the pavilion will mean that the building will no longer be a drain on our resources, helping secure the Trust's finances for the future and allow us to continue providing the open space that we know people love so much.

‘‘It will also allow us to continue our support for the 700 boys and girls of Appleton AFC who play every week on our football pitches.’’

A spokesperson for the Agoge said: "Since the announcement of The Agoge opening a second location at the pavilion we have been inundated with enquiries and the feedback has been largely positive!

‘‘We understand there may be some misgivings or apprehension about what we will bring to the area however we are excited for the opportunity to show the local people what the CrossFit community is all about and the positive impacts that a healthy lifestyle can have on all ages and abilities. "
