A MAJOR route in the town was closed four around six hours today due to a fire.

Manchester Road was shut in both directions near to the junction with Riversdale in Woolston after a blaze broke out in a garage bordering the A57.

Warrington Guardian:

Cheshire Fire and Rescue and Cheshire Police attended, with six engines having been dispatched to the scene at around 10.45am.

It is believed that no parties were injured during the incident.

The road was reopened at around 4.45pm.

A fire service spokesman said: "Firefighters were called following reports of a fire involving a garage on Manchester Road.

"On arrival, the crews found one detached garage well alight.

"The scene was sectorised, and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

"All utilities to the building were isolated.
