GLASTONFERRY has been cancelled for the second year running following the Prime Minister's announcement of a delay to Covid restrictions lifting altogether.

Organisers of the hugely popular music festival at the Ferry Tavern in Penketh had pinned their hopes on the final phase of Boris Johnson's plan to end the lockdown going ahead on June 21 as their event was taking place on July 3.

But due to concerns over the rapidly-spreading Delta variant and subsequent pressure on the health service, 'step four' has now been delayed until July 19.

This means large events like music festivals cannot currently go ahead.

On Facebook, the Glastonferry team said: "Unfortunately, after the Prime Minister's announcement we are forced to postpone our Glastonferry Music Festival event, which was due to take place on Saturday, July 3.

"In line with Government legislation the event cannot take place on the planned date.

"We have tried to reschedule the event to later in the year but unfortunately, it’s impossible to find a suitable date where all contractors are available. I’m very sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it’s totally out of our hands.

"Thank you for all of your support and understanding, I appreciate it’s been difficult for all of us and hopefully 2022 will see things get back to normal."

The festival was due to see a headline set by Lancashire Hotpots after a range of covers bands and artists paying tribute to likes of Queen, Oasis, The Ramones, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gerry Cinnamon.

Ticket holders can contact Ticketline for a refund or festival passes can be carried over to 2022.

The Ferry Tavern team added: "In the meantime, stay safe, wash your hands and look after each other.

"Thank you for your continued support."
