MORE than half of residents in Warrington have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, latest figures reveal.

NHS data shows 92,434 people had received both jabs by June 6, which equates to 54 per cent of those aged 16 and over in the town.

In total, Warrington has completed 225,270 vaccinations since the programme began in December.

Of this number, 132,836 were first doses, which is the equivalent of 78 per cent of the population aged 16 and above.

NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who had received at least one dose between different areas across Warrington.

Appleton leads the way, with 92.2 per cent of residents aged 16 and over having been given their first dose.

This is followed by Appleton Thorn, Stretton and Walton (88.9 per cent) and Great Sankey (88 per cent).

At the other end of the table is Fairfield and Howley (61.9 per cent), with Bewsey and Dallam (65.8 per cent) and Hulme (66.9 per cent) having the second and third worst coverage rates respectively.

Across England, 23.6million people had received a second dose of the jab by June 6 – 52 per cent of the population aged over 16 and over.

That includes 22.3million people aged 30 and over, or 62 per cent of the age group.

In total, 33.6million people had received at least one dose of a vaccine by the same date, covering 74 per cent of people over 16.

Despite the success of the rollout, some staff at care homes in Warrington have not been vaccinated.

The figures show 1,845 out of 2,158 eligible staff, including agency workers, at older adult care homes had received a first dose by June 6 – meaning 15 per cent have not had a jab.

The Government is currently in consultation over plans to make the jab mandatory for staff over concerns for residents.
