A BAR in Warrington town centre will not be opening this weekend after some staff members tested positive for coronavirus.

PJ’s, on Bridge Street, will be closed on Friday and Saturday following support and advice from Public Health England and Public Health Warrington.

It follows confirmation that some staff members tested positive last weekend.

The bar and nightclub said on Facebook: ‘‘Apologies to anyone who has booked in, we hope you understand.

‘‘Please stay safe and we hope to see you all next week.’’

The positive tests follow a rise in Covid cases in Warrington, as more than 100 cases were confirmed in one week.

Figures from Public Health England showed that there were 116 positive Covid-19 tests returned in the town in the seven days leading up to June 4, the most recent period for which data is available.

This equates to 55.2 cases for every 100,000 residents, the 58th highest rate in the country.
