THE former Marks and Spencer store in Warrington town centre has been put up for sale.

M&S shut its Golden Square Shopping Centre branch back in summer 2017, and the unit has remained vacant for the four years since.

An unnamed high street giant was rumoured to be close to agreeing a deal take on the site in 2019, but the move never came to fruition.

And the 87,182sq ft shop, which also fronts onto Sankey Street, has now been placed on the market.

The store has been listed on Rightmove via Manchester-based estate agents Cheetham and Mortimer Surveyors LLP.

It boasts of a ‘prime trading location’ across basement, ground, first and second floors.

A 125-year lease at £30,000 per annum remains active, with more than 80 years remaining on the deal at present.
