A COMMUNITY art group in Warrington are showcasing their work at an opticians in Birchwood, with all pieces up for sale.

Fearnhead Community Art Group’s work is displayed on the wall at Valli Opticians and all proceeds will go to the artists of each piece.

The art can be viewed by anyone, from customers to passers-by.

The group’s work consists of oil paintings, water colours, acrylics, pastels and pencil drawings – whatever members of the art group would like to do.

James Houlihan, practice manager of Valli Opticians, agreed to display the group’s art after meeting one of the members.

He thought it was a good opportunity to support the local community.

James said: ‘‘We’ve sold a few already and it’s having a positive impact on the whole community.

‘‘They’ve gained new members too, and from our point of view that’s what we wanted to set out to achieve.

‘‘We want to help people and put something back into the community.’’

Before the pandemic, the group would meet twice a week to socialise and practice their art at the Scout and Guide Hall in Padgate.

Due to Covid restrictions, the group haven’t met for over 14 months but they are hoping to start weekly meetings again when the restrictions next ease.

Judith Humphrys, a member of the art group, said: ‘‘It’s been fantastic for us to have somewhere to actually exhibit some of our work.

‘‘I think it gives people a sense of pride and it makes everyone smile.

‘‘It is nice when someone sells one it’s like, oh great you sold one, jolly good!’’
