THESE dramatic photos show the severity of a car fire which caused lengthy delays on the motorway network in Warrington over the weekend.
The blazed forced the closure of three lanes on the M62 eastbound between junction 10 for Croft and junction 11 for Birchwood on Saturday afternoon.
At its height, traffic was reported stretching back for more than two miles and motorists faced delays of at least 30 minutes.
The incident also impacted traffic from the M6, both northbound and southbound, attempting to join the M62 eastbound at junction 21.
Traffic officers from Highways England and firefighters from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene at approximately 12.45pm.
The crew from Birchwood Fire Station, who took the photos, found the Ford C-Max to be well alight on arrival.
Wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel jet, they were able to extinguish the fire and clear an oil spillage from the carriageway.
