A THIRD of people in Warrington have now received two doses of a coronavirus vaccine, figures reveal.

NHS data shows that 58,346 people had received both jabs by May 9 – the equivalent of 34 per cent of the population aged 16 and over.

Of those to have received both jabs, 51,889 were aged 40 and over, which translates to 47 per cent of the age group.

In total, 175,598 vaccinations have been carried out in the town, with 117,252 people having received at least one dose – 69 per cent of all residents aged 16 and over.

At present, vaccination appointments can be made through the national booking system by adults aged 38 and over.

NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who had received at least one dose between different areas across Warrington.

Appleton leads the way, with 85.5 per cent of eligible residents having jabbed, followed by Appleton Thorn, Stretton and Walton (79.4 per cent) and Great Sankey (78.1 per cent).

The area with the lowest coverage was Fairfield and Howley at 51.8 per cent, with the next areas on the list being Bewsey and Dallam (54.9 per cent) and Central Warrington (56.7 per cent).

Across England, 15million people had received a second dose of the jab by May 9 – 33 per cent of the population aged over 16 and over.

That includes 13.3million people aged 40 and over, which is 47 per cent of the age group.

In total, 29.4million people had received at least one dose of a vaccine by the same date, covering 65 per cent of people over 16.

Despite the success of the rollout, some staff at care homes in Warrington have not been vaccinated.

Figures show 1,756 out of 2,186 eligible staff, including agency workers, at older adult care homes had received a first dose by May 9 – meaning 20 per cent have not had a jab.

The Government is currently in consultation over plans to make the vaccine mandatory for staff over concerns for residents.
