STAFF and volunteers at working to vaccinate residents across Warrington have received royal approval for their efforts over the past five months.
Robert Mee, the High Sheriff of Cheshire, praised their tremendous work during visits to Warrington’s vaccination sites at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and Orford Jubilee Hub on Wednesday.
Appointed by The Queen, High Sheriffs represent the Crown in local communities and give awards to often unsung heroes who have made an outstanding contribution to society.
During his visit, the High Sheriff delivered a thank you speech and presented his award to staff and volunteers to commend their incredible contribution to communities.
His visit came almost five months to the day since the first coronavirus vaccination was administered in Warrington to 98-year-old former GP, Phillip Leech.
Following his visit, the High Sheriff said: “It is my great pleasure to recognise the incredible teamwork of staff and volunteers at Warrington’s GP-led vaccination sites.
“Since the start of the year, their efforts have potentially helped save thousands of lives.
“All our communities will be forever thankful, and it is my privilege to present a High Sheriff Award to them.”
Dr Rakhi Raj, GP and clinical director of East Warrington Primary Care Network, greeted The High Sheriff on his arrival at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
He said: “It was an incredible honour to receive a visit by The High Sheriff of Cheshire.
“He was able to meet the clinical directors, GPs, vaccinators, paramedics, care co-ordinators, pharmacists and volunteers.
“All have played an important role in the successful delivery of our local vaccination programme.”
Dr Laura Mount, clinical director of Central and West Warrington Primary Care Network and leader of the Orford Jubilee Hub vaccination site, says the recognition of staff and volunteers is fully deserved.
“It has been five months since the first Warrington resident received their Covid vaccination,” she added.
“Since then, our staff and volunteers have gone above and beyond to run scores of vaccination clinics for our local communities.
“The High Sherriff’s visit was a chance to reflect on what has been achieved during this time and to recognise the efforts of those behind the scenes who have contributed so much to the programme.”
