THE number of new coronavirus cases being recorded in Warrington remains low as we approach the next lockdown easing step.

Figures from Public Health England for the week up to May 8 – the most recent period for which data is available – show 23 new infections were detected through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This is the equivalent of 11 Covid-19 cases per every 100,000 residents in the town, which is the 235th highest rate in England compared with all other local authority areas.

Comparatively, the previous seven-day period up to May 1 saw 54 infections recorded at a rate of 25.7, meaning cases have fallen by more than half in the space of a week.
