THE rate of coronavirus infection in Warrington has fallen again as we approach the next stage in easing the current lockdown, latest figures show.

According to Public Health England data for the week up to May 7, which is the most recent period available, 25 new Covid-19 cases were detected through lab and rapid lateral flow testing.

This is an infection rate of 11.9 cases per every 100,000 residents, which is the 220th highest rate in England.

During the previous seven-day period up April 30, the town recorded 51 new cases at a rate of 24.3.

Warrington was among 196 of 315 areas that have seen a fall in rates (62 per cent), while 107 have seen a rise (34 per cent) and 12 are unchanged.
