A retired midwife has been getting dressed up and wearing a different outfit every day for the past year - and she has just 13 days left to make it to 365.

Lesley Hampson from Birchwood started the challenge on May 23 last year when she was working at Warrington Hospital, where she has seen thousands of expectant parents over her 37-year career.

She wanted to give herself a focus during lockdown and not just lounge around the house in casual clothes and nightwear, which some people opted for when the government’s advice was to stay at home.

Even when she’d finished a 12-hour shift at the hospital, she would go home, take off her uniform and put on a new outfit every day.

The 60-year-old has taken a photograph of each outfit and documented the last 12 months on her Facebook page.

Warrington Guardian:

Lesley, who is a grandmother of three, said: “I have an extensive wardrobe and I wanted to make sure that each outfit was worn.

“I have some lovely vintage pieces that I just don’t get the wear out of.

“It was too easy during lockdown to stay at home and not get changed every day so I looked in my wardrobe and decided to see if I could give myself a focus and wear something different every day for a year.

“Lockdown has been so restrictive - I’m a very sociable person and I missed being able to see friends and family, go to theatre and visit vintage events.

“Having a new outfit every day has been good for my own mental health.“ Lesley has been raising money for different charities while she has been doing the challenge, collecting donations for Childline, survivors of domestic abuse and postnatal depression - some of the organisations that have seen an increase in demand for their services as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Warrington Guardian:

Lesley retired on January 4 and chose her final day in work to take a photo of her midwifery uniform.

She also has several ball gowns that might be the chosen outfits for the remaining few days of the challenge.
