COMEDIAN John Bishop shared a special fun-filled family celebration in the beer garden of a Winsford pub.

Dad Ernie and twin brother Freddie celebrated their 80th birthday at The Old Star in Swanlow Lane.

Publican Ernie Welch said: "The twins have been coming in every Sunday with their friends for years. Freddie and Ernie are the youngest at 80.

"I did them a nice hot pot with crusty bread and had cakes made for them.

"Freddie supports Everton and Ernie follows Liverpool so I had two cakes made for them. I had the top half of the 8 and zero decorated in red and the bottom blue.

"They had a smashing time."

John and older brother Eddie joined dad Ernie and uncle Freddie with friends for a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon.

"I've know them since the early 70s when we used to work together," said Ernie Welch. "John used to live on the Crook estate and played for Winsford United before he was famous."

John's dad Ernie and his family moved to Runcorn. Freddie still lives in Winsford.

"John's dad and brother and all the old boys have been coming in every Sunday for 12 years," said Ernie. "John pops in regularly."

The twins, who celebrated their 80th birthday on Monday, meet up every week with friends Frankie Hassell, 86, Ronnie Jennings, 89 and Kenny Hassell, 91.

"We used to call it the Cobweb Corner and then it became the Departure Lounge," said Ernie. "They're always joking and they are all very witty."
