GIRLS at Sir Thomas Boteler High School impressed as they got the opportunity to train with Sale Sharks' England rugby union greats.
World Cup winners Jason Robinson OBE and Katy Daley-McLean treated some of Boteler’s year 7 girls to a masterclass.
It was all part of a new Sharks Community Trust programme designed to encourage girls to get into rugby.
Robinson's involvement marked his return to the Sharks as a non-executive director and he joined Sale Women's star Daley-McLean for what was the launch of the club's Girls Tackle Rugby programme.
The 46-year-old former Wigan rugby league, Bath and Sale Sharks rugby union winger or full-back, who appeared more than 50 times for his country and scored a vital try in England’s 2003 World Cup win, passed on his knowledge and showed off his famous quick feet.
Daley-McLean, who is England’s third most capped women’s player with 116 international appearances, demonstrated why the programme matters as she told the girls about her rise to the top.
“This kind of programme is absolutely essential if we’re going to grow the women’s game, both in terms of getting girls interested in the sport, but also providing a pathway to the top level of the game," she said.
"It was amazing to see how the much the girls loved playing rugby. There was some real talent on show too.”
