Daresbury gained its first ever Green councillor in what was a very different local election this year.

All 54 seats across 18 wards on Halton Council were up for grabs this year due to a boundary shakeup which had consigned some old wards to history, and merged others to create entirely new ones.

Andrew Dyer from the Green Party, caused an upset in the newly created ward of Daresbury, Moore and Sandymoor, beating the Conservative candidate by only 20 votes.

The old two seat Daresbury ward had had two Conservative councillors – John and Marjorie Bradshaw – but the newly redrawn boundary meant a third seat was created. Both Conservatives retained their seats and it was expected that the third new seat would also turn blue.

But Mr Dyer made electoral history.

No Greens managed to win a seat on Warrington Borough Council.
