LABOUR lost a number of big names despite retaining control of Warrington Borough Council on Saturday.
Cabinet members Rebecca Knowles, Judith Guthrie and Matt Smith fell to shock defeats.
While former mayors Linda Dirir and Faisal Rashid also lost.
Cllr Dirir in Penketh while former Warrington South MP Mr Rashid failed in his bid to get re-elected.
Cllr Knowles fell 16 votes short in Chapelford and Old Hall, losing to Conservative Linda Butler.
Cllr Guthrie lost by three votes to Conservative Nigel Balding in Birchwood.
While the Liberal Democrats also lost a veteran. Sharon Harris among those defeated in Appleton as the Conservatives completed a clean sweep of wins.
