FEWER than 30 cases of coronavirus were recorded among the entire population of Halton over the past week.

According to the latest figures from Public Health England, 27 Covid infections were detected in the borough through lab and rapid lateral flow testing in the seven days up to May 1 – the most recent period for which data is available.

This demonstrates and infection rate of 20.9 cases per every 100,000 residents, which is the 106th highest rate in England compared with all other local authority areas.

Comparatively, the previous week up to April 24 saw 15 cases recorded at a rate of 11.6.

Halton was among 108 out of 315 areas (34 per cent) which saw a rise in case rates, while 193 (61 per cent) have seen a fall and 14 are unchanged.
