A FIRE is believed to have been started deliberately in Victoria Park in Widnes yesterday, Saturday.
Just after 8.30pm, crews were called to the scene where they used a hose reel jet to extinguish a large fire in the open.
A Cheshire Fire spokesperson added: "The crew was detained at the scene for around 20 minutes.
"The fire is believed to have been started deliberately and anyone with any information is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 977852 or visit cheshire.police.uk/tua."
In a separate and unrelated incident, Widnes fire crews attended Rylands Street to put out a fire involving rubbish at the rear of a commercial premises.
The incident happened shortly before 9pm and the crew was detained at the scene for around 15 minutes.
