A BOMB disposal team was called after a fisherman discovered a hand grenade in a canal.
Police were called at 1.35pm today, Thursday, April 8, following reports from nearby a canal close to Bradley Lane in Newton-le-Willows.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD) has been contacted to dispose of the device safely, police confirmed.

Another magnet fishing escapade has pulled this grenade out of the Brook.
Police are on scene and Army Bomb Disposal will remove the grenade.

A police spokesman added that roads in the surrounding area have been closed and the public are advised to avoid the area while the matter is being dealt with.
