A SERIAL robber whinged at a judge for ‘not giving him a chance’ after he was jailed again over a gang attack on two teenage boys.

The youngsters had their bikes, bags and mobile phones stolen after being robbed by five men in an alleyway in Stockton Heath.

Ringleader Jordan Ellis was handed 18 months behind bars over the incident on Tuesday, April 6.

Chester Crown Court heard that the two young victims, who were aged around 15, were accosted in an alleyway off Cawdor Street at roughly 5pm on April 21 2019.

While they waited for their friend, who was buying a bottle of water from the nearby Bargain Booze store, a Volkswagen Passat pulled up and the defendant got out of the vehicle.

Ellis, of Forshaw Street in Orford, approached the pair and asked them ‘if they were selling weed’.

The 25-year-old then told the teens to give him their bikes as four other attackers got out of the car, with their bags then also taken and stashed in the boot.

One of the robbers shouted ‘don’t move or I’ll kill you’ as the group got back into the vehicle and drove away.

Both boys were left ‘shocked and scared’ following the incident, with one having suffered from nightmares for days afterwards.

Goods worth around £1,000 were taken from one of the teenagers, while the other had items valued at nearly £2,000 stolen in total.

These valuables included an iPhone 8 Plus, an iPhone 6s, a pair of Apple headphones and a Hugo Boss bag.

A member of the public who witnessed the incident took note of the car’s registration plate, and the vehicle was later pulled over by police in the Runcorn area.

Ellis, who is also known as Oliver Ellis, was arrested the following month as a result and picked out by the victims during an identity parade.

He subsequently admitted two counts of robbery, but co-accused Wayne Huckle was acquitted of the same charges after a trial.

The 35-year-old, of Widnes, is currently serving a 15-year prison stretch after being found guilty of repeatedly raping a girl aged as young as 13 last year.

Ellis has seven previous offences for robbery or attempted robbery dating back to 2011 against his name, and 18 convictions in total.

His defence team told the court that he had ‘turned his life around’ since the incident and is due to become a father for the first time, having secured a job in the kitchen at the Toby Carvery in Widnes last year.

Sentencing, judge Patrick Thompson said: “It seems to me that you did the talking, and effectively what you and the others did was intimidate the boys into handing over the goods.

“It was a cowardly act, and it was a very unpleasant act.

“You have a number of previous convictions, albeit from some years ago, for robbery – which aggravates your situation considerably.

“Through no fault of yours, this case has taken some time to come to sentence and much to your credited you have been out of trouble for two years – a significant period of time given your record.

“Bearing all factors in mind, it seems to me that appropriate punishment can only be achieved by the imposition of an immediate custodial sentence.”

After learning his sentence, Ellis moaned: “He could’ve given me a chance though couldn’t he?

“They don’t give no-one a chance the courts, do they?

“Scumbags.”

He also asked a friend in the public gallery to ‘ring his bird’ as he was led down to the cells.

Judge Thompson responded: “I’m afraid he’s run out of chances.”

Ellis will serve up to half of his sentence in custody before being released on licence.

Cheshire Police have praised the bravery of the two victims throughout the investigation and the court process.

Police constable Wendy Whitehead said: “I welcome the sentence handed to Ellis, and am pleased that he is now behind bars facing the consequences of his actions.

“Nobody should have to experience an incident of this nature, especially when at such a young age.

“Yet throughout this investigation, the victims have shown immense bravery.

“I would like to say a special thanks to them both and to the witness in the case who made a note of the registration number of the vehicle involved, which greatly assisted us in establishing that Ellis was involved in the robbery.”
