ONE area of Warrington has seen more than 60 per cent of its residents vaccinated against coronavirus, the latest NHS data shows.

In Appleton, 60.4 per cent of the population aged 16 and above have received their first dose – the highest proportion of any area in the town.

This is followed by Penketh and Cuerdley (58.0 per cent), Great Sankey (56.5 per cent) and Culcheth East and Hollins Green (54.5 per cent).

Due to the rapid progress of the vaccination programme, more than half of residents in 13 areas of Warrington have received their first coronavirus vaccination.

Conversely, only 33.6 per cent of residents aged 16 and over have received their vaccinations in Fairfield and Howley.

Other areas with low vaccination coverage include Bewsey and Dallam (37.8 per cent), Latchford (38.4 per cent) and Hulme (38.8 per cent).

Having a higher proportion of elderly residents is one reason which could increase coverage figures.

Across Warrington as a whole, nearly half of residents have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

NHS data shows 80,361 people had received a vaccine jab by March 14 – equating to 47 per cent of those aged 16 and over.

Of those vaccinated, 55,896 were aged 55 or over – 84 per cent of the age group.

It means 24,465 people aged between 16 and 54 have received a first dose of the vaccine.
