A BODY has been found in the search for missing man Geoff Sutcliffe.

The 61-year-old, from Woolston, was reported missing from home on Wednesday last week.

Cheshire Police have confirmed that Mr Sutcliffe’s body was found in the Rixton area at around 4pm yesterday, Sunday.

His family have been informed and formal identification has taken place.

Officers are not treating his death as suspicious.

A force spokesman said: “The body of a missing man from Warrington has been discovered.

“Geoff Sutcliffe’s body was found in the Rixton area of the town at around 4pm on Sunday, February 28.

“The family of the 61-year-old, who went missing on Wednesday 24 February, have been informed and formal identification has taken place.

“They are being supported by specialist officers.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a case file will be prepared for the coroner.

“Officers who had been searching for Geoff would like to thank members of the public for their support during the search, and request that his family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time.

“The family would also like to thank the members of the public who helped with the search, and have requested that any missing man posters regarding Geoff be taken down.”

Mr Sutcliffe left his home on foot at some point between 10.30am and 12pm on February 24.

Underwater search teams, dog units and drones had been used during efforts to trace his whereabouts.

Residents had been urged to check sheds and outbuildings for the missing man, while a CCTV image of him on the day of his disappearance was also issued.
