A THIRD site to offer coronavirus tests to residents that are not showing any symptoms is set to open in the town.

Alongside the testing sites at Grappenhall Cricket Club and the Halliwell Jones Stadium, a new asymptomatic test centre is being set up in east Warrington.

The site will open at Croft Youth and Activity Centre on Smithy Lane, initially for five days, between 2pm and 7pm.

It will be open only for people who have no coronavirus symptoms and are unable to work from home under the current restrictions, or those who provide care to others.

The opening is being supported by Croft Parish Council and is part of plans to expand the number of localised community testing sites across the borough.

More are set to be rolled out in more areas in the coming months.

If you have any coronavirus symptoms, no matter how mild, you need to self-isolate and book an NHS test immediately via gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

Thara Raj, Warrington’s director of public health, said: “It is fantastic news that there is now another option for testing which is more convenient for people living in east Warrington.

“It is easier than ever for residents to get a symptom-free test at the new site at Croft, and we are working with our partners to roll the programme out to more sites across the borough.

“Coronavirus cases are starting to come down in Warrington, which has been helped by people who have to leave home to work getting a symptom-free test and avoiding spreading the virus unknowingly to others.

“If you cannot work from home or provide care, getting a symptom-free test is key to help reduce transmission of coronavirus.”

Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, added: “The symptom-free, rapid tests are a really easy way to do your bit to help reduce the number of cases and protect your family, friends and colleagues who may be more vulnerable to the effects of coronavirus.

“If you have to work outside of home, please remember the basics of washing your hands regularly, wearing a face covering if necessary, and keeping your distance from others.

“Also, if you have any symptoms of coronavirus, however mild, self-isolate immediately and book an NHS test.”
