WORK to demolish an extracare site in Appleton has begun, with a new facility set to be built in its place.
Elderly residents at Broomfields independent living complex, located on Bridge Lane, were told in June 2018 that they will be moved.
Housing giant Torus informed them that if they wanted to continue to receive care beyond 2020, they will have to move to a purpose-built centre in Padgate.
However following concerns, a modern facility will instead be built on the existing Appleton site.
Extracare housing provision, for over 55s, is designed to support people to live as independently as possible in the community.
It is anticipated it will take around 18 months to build the new facility, as well as time to demolish the existing building which has now commenced.
